Magazine Style

I am preparing  justinsloan.com to be a magazine-style creative outlet. One in which readers will provide feedback in a traditional sense, that is, in response to an article. The ongoing social conversation will exist of course, but will be limited to social networks. You can follow me on twitter now @photosloan. This medium in particular will be for writing articles that we can all discuss together, share our thoughts on, and learn from.

I have a passion for photography. I am not saying that I am particularly good at it, but I know what I like. I love to scour the web in search of an inspiring photograph. The chance to share what I find and talk about it sounds awesome!

Scott Bourne always says that if you want to become a better photographer, you have to look at a lot of photographs, hundreds at least, thousand would be even better. You can learn what is good, what is bad, and why. You can also learn what it is that you like in a photograph, which is by far what is most important. That is the primary motivator behind this site. To look at photographs and talk about them, magazine style.

I am not here to put down someone’s work. I won’t hesitate to put out my opinion and say that something is crap, but that’s just my opinion. I may not like something that you like. I will, however, always provide a reason; I won’t just tell you that you need to tear up your photographer certificate from the online school you went to for no reason.

But let’s have fun.

"Aloha TheBus" by Justin M. Sloan

It’s all coming very soon. My passion for photography will be tranfered to the pages of justinsloan.com. Photo critiques will be the name of the game. Let’s tell it like it is. If a photograph is beautiful we can let the world know. If it’s crap, we’ll do the same. Together we can learn more about what makes a work of art, and what barely passes as a polaroid.
